Building a New Futuro for Hispanic students
Higher education remains the primary path to economic prosperity, but for many Hispanics – the largest and fastest-growing minority in America – a college degree and professional career are often beyond imagination or reach. Only 13 percent of Hispanics hold a bachelor’s degree and just 4 percent have completed graduate programs. Hispanics will soon make up more than 30 percent of America’s youth. Clearly, increasing college and career success isn’t just a Hispanic priority; it’s a national imperative.
Fortunately, New Futuro – a purpose-driven, for-profit, minority-owned business – has created a unique public-private partnership focused on helping Hispanic students achieve the American Dream. It’s the only bilingual, one-stop education and career program in the nation. As the presenting sponsor, Allstate believes in a coordinated approach to opening doors to colleges and careers for the next generation of leaders.
New Futuro has built a 360-degree approach to providing Hispanic students and their families with free resources to help them decide, plan and act on their education and career goals. With endorsement from the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics, New Futuro brings together an extensive network of national and local youth-service organizations, universities and other educational groups to guide students.
This fall New Futuro will host a series of boot camps and a super summit in communities throughout the Chicago area. Allstate heroes – many of our Hispanic agency owners and employees – will share their stories of how education contributed to their success as well as discuss careers in insurance and financial services. Our hope is that the students will see and believe in their own futures.
