Our new fashion-minded website aims to make it easier to open up about domestic violence. At first glance, PurplePurse.com appears to be an online fashion magazine, but when you look closer you find the site is filled with information about domestic violence and tools to make it easier to talk about the issue.
Domestic violence is a complex issue that can be hard – even scary – to talk about. So, we took a page from popular women’s magazines and embedded domestic violence information unexpectedly within a fashion-focused website. We had to think differently about the issue because, despite the fact that domestic violence affects 1 in 4 women in their lifetime, more than one-third of Americans have never discussed the subject with a friend or family member. We want to get people talking. We want to make talking with friends about domestic violence come as naturally as chatting about fashion. PurplePurse.com is a powerful step in that direction.
PurplePurse.com presents important, potentially life-saving information in an accessible, easy-to-digest way. Stepping back from all the statistics, research and history of this major issue helped us realize that it was possible to reach a whole new audience with this important information in a creative, new way. We understand being in an abusive relationship isn’t easy, but we think talking to your friends about it should be. Learn how to get the conversation started at PurplePurse.com.
