I’m having trouble getting the drift of their logic. Their pleas and cries of anguish leave me cold.

Why is it permissible to name only tropical cyclones but not name non-tropical cyclones?

Not all tropical cyclones impact land yet they are named. Non-tropical cyclones on the other hand, travel across the continent from the Pacific coast to the Atlantic coast.

Both non-tropical cyclones and those tropical cyclones that have land fall impact people living in their paths. Tropical cyclones cause damage from high winds and heavy rain in highly variable patterns along their paths. Non-tropical storms cause damage with heavy frozen precipitation, high winds, and freezing cold in highly variable patterns along their paths.

But we do get snowstorms that can strand people and have electricity out for days. Kind of the same thing. We call out our storms by month and year. Names would give more meaning.
