When it comes to safe drivers, Denver and Lakewood residents are a mile high above the rest. According to new results from the Allstate America’s Best Drivers Report, Denver and Lakewood rank No. 1 among cities of comparable size.
Among cities with populations between 750,000 and 1 million, the Denver and Lakewood area is the safest, with an average of about one collision every 10 years, according to the report.
To come up with its report, Allstate researchers analyzed collision data for America’s largest 200 cities and identified which U.S. cities have the safest drivers—and the rankings have just been released.

While Denver and Lakewood rank No. 64 on the overall list of America’s largest 200 cities, a nearby city took the top spot, regardless of size. Fort Collins ranks No. 1 on the overall list. Fort Collins has held the title for three years in the history of the report. This year, the results indicate the average driver in Fort Collins will experience an auto collision about every 14 years, which is 28 percent less likely than the national average of every 10 years, according to the report.
