This really is good avidce. Some of it common sense, but some I wish I had known before I hired one area contractor who has made our lives miserable for the past few years. To add to the above list:8. Read, read and re-read your contract over and over before signing it. If you do not understand EVERYTHING in it, make sure you get help from someone who does. A lot of it is in construction worker terms and not all of us know these terms. I didn't.9. Make sure the exact materials are specified in the contract. One of the biggest problems for us was the contract stating PORCH POSTS. We were shown and charged for beautiful decorative posts which were very expensive, but actually got the cheapest, ugliest rough cut lumber posts that most people would only use as a garden border. This bait and switch tactic was used on us a few times, but this was the worst. 10. If they charge by the hour run for the hills!
