I agree, this is a BOB (Bug Out Bag). There would not be room for anything else in the trunk of my car is I had a “Car” emergency kit. I mean, 4 rolls of TP – how long of a trip are you going on????

Dudes, Allstate Insurance is not going to pay for an article in which the author advocates carrying a firearm. Not going to happen. Give the author a break.

All of the things listed in the article are excellent to have on hand. Most people will not have all of the food items available, unless they regularly rotate stock.

There are many, many, many websites that describe in detail the contents of a car emergency survival kit. This bug out bag should be kept in the car and updated as the season dictate. The kit should be evaluated periodically to ensure the contents have not reached their shelf life, especially medications, water and food. The contents should not be the same as the family 72-hour survival kit. That kit is kept i the home and have far more in it.

Just can’t bring yourself to admit having a gun in such emergency planning is prudent I see. How can you plan for so many catastrophes and frivolous situations and not cover something so basic as a handgun. Adding that personal protection gives real safety. Safety from wild animal, or from hostile people. When you’re alone, in the dark, stranded, and some bad people show up, or an aggressive wild animal, do you really think you’ll be glad you have your pepper spray and that you don’t have a gun ? They are not evil. It’s a tool. Don’t become so politically correct that you allow yourself to be disarmed and at the mercy of situations you could have prevented. It’s too late when you need it.

I’d like to know just where you can put the kids after putting all that stuff in your car. I can’t imagine hauling all that around all the time. There wouldn’t be room for groceries or any other shopping, much less having seat space for the kids.

Seriously for those late to the table it is called a “Bug Out Bag” and changing the name to make it more politically correct does it no justice. These dime a dozen want to be survivalists that write these blogs and infect twitter, facebook and the net are really worthless.

Bottomline if your not learning the basics from a truely professionally trained expert, more like someone ex-military then you might as well kiss your rear good buy in a pinch.
