I thought the suggestion to test the microwave was interesting. hahaha You'd have to have something to put in it, as a cup of water, for instance. Also, the suggestion to check elec. outlets with your cell phone charger? Who thinks up this advice? See how the shower head sprays? It seems that everyone has their own idea of the ideal shower head and most people would replace one that they didn't like.
This whole article could have been summed up by advising people to also just take pics, as someone mentioned, or video--so you have the before and after photos.

My daughter in Los Angeles got her money back quickly, after a long delay and refusal, by having a lawyer friend send a letter on his letter head saying she (the landlord) was in violation of not responding to the demand for the deposit back on time. She got her full $2000 deposit back. I helped her clean the apt when she left and it was much nicer than when she moved in. In addition, the gardener the woman hired was found peering into my daughters' second floor shower by standing on a railing in the middle of the day.(my daughter was shocked to see his ugly face staring up at her) The woman didn't fire him after complaints and witnesses. My daughter didn't fight it, all she wanted to do was move.

What would I do? Simple. If a landlord demanded I sign a document stating there were no problems with a apartment without allowing me to verify it first, I'd find another place to live. You just know, if someone's going to try to pull crap like that before you even move in, you are guaranteed to have issues with them for the entire term of your lease.
