NOAA is predicting an extremely active hurricane season in the Atlantic this year, saying we are in an “era of high activity” for Atlantic hurricanes. The agency says we should prepare for anywhere from 13 to 20 named storms this season, of which seven to 11 could become hurricanes.

Hurricane preparedness doesn’t only extend to those living along the coastline, though. NOAA says strong winds, heavy rains, and tornadoes can threaten areas far inland from where a storm first makes landfall.
